Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome to Year 1!  We are Year 1 children from Norwich, England who go to the best school in the whole wide world.  Our school is a wonderful place to be.  We have lots of fun learning together.  We (the children and the teachers) love learning and are always on the lookout to learn from each other and the world around us.
We do lots of things in Year 1 like reading, writing, phonics, maths, topic, games, forest schools, art, music, performing arts, French, ICT, PSHE, swimming, gymnastics and exploring.
We like being in Year 1 and we like doing fun stuff at school.  One of our favourite activities is visiting our on-site woods.  Some magical things have been known to happen in our woods, and we have already encountered some cheeky fairies and pixies who stole one of our numbers!

We have a home corner which we decide what it should be... it is very exciting and we love to play in it.  We become grown ups in it!  Our class mascot is Marfee Bear, named by Jemima C after our very first THLPS headmaster, Mr Marfleet.  He gets up to mischief!  We get to take him home at the weekends and sometimes he has midnight feasts... he steals our chocolate!

We have a pom pom jar in Year 1.  When we do something amazing we get to put a pom pom in the jar. We like to work together as a team and use our core values to help us remember how to be good friends.

We have special lockers to keep our PE, Swimming and Forest Schools kits. We have play-dough; the blue one smells like Coca-Cola, the pink one smells of strawberries, the light green one is apple and the yellow one smells of lemon!   We do lots of art and we get to do lots of exciting things during Exploring Time.

We are very good readers and every time we read at home we get a pom pom in the jar!

We have loads of fun at school and have good playtimes. Our playground has a castle, a boat and even a train! We have a shed where we keep all our toys.  We also have a balance beam.
We have an assembly hall where we get Merit Badges and Core Values Badges at Good Work Assemblies on Fridays.

We have a super swimming pool.  When it is snowy there is a steep slope and it’s perfect for sledging.  The school dinners are yummy and our favourites are roast dinners, apple and pork burgers and hot dogs.  We have delicious puddings too, like ice-cream and fruit salad.

Some of our brilliant after school clubs are:  Construction Club, Soccer Stars, Golf, Code Club, Disco Club, Sketchbook Club, RATTs (Random Acts and Thoughtful Things), Tennis, Crafty Can, SOFA (Speaking Out For Animals), Glee, Gymnastics, Swimming Fun, Reading Club, Art Fun, Loom Bands, Role Play, Skipping Fun, Games and Puzzles, Draw Colour & Create, Brownies... there are so many more than this!

In case you hadn't guessed, all of these ideas came straight from our amazing Year 1's brains.

We hope you like our blog!
