Poems

More poems have been added to the 'Randomness' page. Enjoy!
During the snow closures I had wanted to put up some documents for the children on this blog, however, I discovered that I didn't quite know how to do it. I think I have come up with a solution. I have attached this week's Week Ahead publisher document. Please test the link to see if you can view it  and take a look at what else you can do, ie, can you save it or write on it, etc? Please let me know as we can then publish this item on here each week.

Many thanks.

Week Ahead 28.01.13
Our maths theme for the next few weeks is reading and writing numbers to 100 (using the concept of place value). I have added the general link for this website into the section at the bottom of the blog, but here is a link to a great number recognition game:

HELP!!!

Next Saturday (2nd Feb), I will be trading my cosy memory foam mattress for a cardboard box (brave or crazy...hmmm?) to raise awareness for YMCA Norfolk.  In true THLPS style, we have decided to get the whole school involved, and a teacher from each year group, along with some amazing parents (hint hint!) will be joining me!  The aim is to see which class can rally up the most support...
YOUR TEACHER NEEDS YOU!!!
Obviously, if you are interested in joining us that would be wonderful!  But if you could sponsor me (honestly every little bit helps!) I would be so grateful! And there is a fantastic treat in store for the winning class so everybody wins :))
The children will be given sponsor forms tomorrow, but if you would prefer, you can also sponsor us at

Don't forget to write YEAR 1 in the comment box.

Hopefully we will all be sleeping under the stars together- it has been reported that it might feel like -8 on Saturday night! Brrr!!!!

Thank you everyone! Can't wait to beat the other teachers! :)

Awards and Certificates

Quick reminder everyone.

Please bring in awards and certficates for PSHE tomorrow.

Thanks! :)

Well done for those who tackled the think and knew the answer was 'uniform'! I'll be posting some more soon.

What We Did Today

I know that lots of you were at home today and using the new blog. I hope you enjoyed visiting the links and exploring the pages.
A few more links!

Below is a website (it can also be accessed at the bottom of the blog in the useful websites list) that has free ORT eBooks on it. Browse the list for books that are the same colour as your school reading book to find those that are of the correct level. There are also a few great storyteller films.

eBooks

Please visit the phonicsplay website. The games and activities are all suitable for the phonics side of things. (See at bottom of blog).

Eek! Another day when I'm not expecting to see you all. We've had another heavy lot of snow.

I will try to add a few more bits onto here that you could explore or get on with today, though I've discovered I cannot work out if or how I could add powerpoints or word documents! So I'm afraid I will have to resort to adding links to websites.

This afternoon we were due to look at the history of the teddy bear. So here are a few of our ideas adapted to work from afar!

Take a look at this website to find out a bit about the history:

A useful writing frame, although you may have to print it out and add lines. You can also type straight onto it. Please try to write about the history of your own favourite teddy bear. Write it as though it is written by your teddy bear. Eg,

Hello.
My name is William Bear. Miss H is my friend. I have known her for 5 years. I stay with her in her classroom so she is not lonely when you have all gone home. I am also here if any of you children need me. You can hug me whenever you want!

Love from William x

These split pin teddy bears are already printed and ready to go at school. Why don't you try having a go at home. If possible, print them off on card, cut and colour. I have the split pins waiting at school.

We have missed a few maths lessons on position, direction and movement, (don't worry we always plan in a bit of a buffer,) but I've managed to find a link to a game that uses basic programming and directions that you could try out.

We've had lots of snow the last few days.

Here are a few links to websites with winter / snow themed activities on them that you might want to try whilst snowed in!

What have we been up to today?

Today we did handwriting and did our diaries. In the afternoon we made pictures of the snow cycle using white paper, chalk and cotton wool.

We had a good first day back after the Christmas holiday.
Welcome everyone to our blog!

What can you do on here?
  • You can go to different websites using the links.
  • You can see what we've been up to.
  • You can keep track by following us.

Who are we?

We are Year 1 girls and boys who spend our time helping each other. We like to go outside at playtime; running, skipping, jumping, playing football, hula-hooping and playing mummies and daddies. We like to make things, do maths, colour-in, write stories, use the computer, paint things and get lots of house points for our teams. Our favourite school dinner of the week is Wednesday when we have a roast dinner! We always look forward to our exploring time.

We hope you enjoy reading our blog!
