Homes and Buildings

A new half term and so a new topic. This time we will be learning through 'Homes and Buildings'. We've updated the Homes and Buildings page, so please check out all of the links to the activities you will find there. Enjoy!
Here is a new song (that will also be added to the Maths link page). It is perfect for our topic this week: counting in tens from any number. Enjoy!

Ordering Numbers

One of our learning objectives this week is: compare numbers (i.e. a number that is bigger or smaller).

Here is a rabbit-themed game that you might want to visit and try out.

One of our learning objectives this week is: begin to order numbers up to 100.

Here is a cute little online game that you might want to check out at home.

Enjoy!

Free eBooks

I know that many of you have checked out the 'Useful Website' link at the bottom of the blog and ventured over to Oxford Owl. Although the books and storyteller videos are great, you cannot download them onto your computer.

So, I have done a bit of trawling on the internet and found 2 sites from which you can download pdf files of books for children. I haven't looked at all of the books, so I do not know the quality, however they seem pretty good from a glimpse. Of course, there are other ways to get children's eBooks too.

Scratch Projects

We have spent the last few weeks thinking about how we can use technology to make toys 'move'. One of the things we've been introduced to is called Scratch. The children have started to learn some basic programming skills and have created scenarios in which they can make their chosen sprite move. All you have to do is click on them!

Here are some of the projects that we have completed so far.

The children have enjoyed working on them at school and I have placed a link to the website if you want to continue this at home by downloading the programme.

The Toy Shop

As part of our afternoon exploration time into the topic of 'toys and games' the children have been creating and adding to a picture of a toy shop. As it's now finished, we thought you might like to take a look!

What kind of toys can you spot sitting on the shelves?

Trip

Just to confirm that we will not be going on a trip to Stranger's Hall this week. The date has been re-arranged to Wednesday 6th March - we just forgot to change it on the main calendar! Details are mostly the same and we will let you know more info closer to the time.

Thank you!
