Money! Money! Money!

It has been a brilliant week! We have been practising our cross-country and have both beaten our times twice!  We have had really nice weather and we played a game with Sam on the playground.  We are learning about different types of sounds, but especially the ar sound in phonics.  Our favourite thing this week has been activity afternoon because we get to do fun things each Friday like baking with Mrs Leggett, puppets with Mrs Pimlott, forest schools with Mrs Nichols, arts and crafts with Mrs Brown and construction with Miss Holmes. In Maths we have been learning about coins and we counted them up to see how much the numbers on them made altogether.  We are really good at money!  We did some tricky work in our workbooks.  We drew toys like the old telephone in Toy Story.  We wrote about what toys look like and we used adjective words like shiny, dirty and old.  In performing arts we played music that was loud.  In French we learned about our family, like brother, sister, mummy, daddy.  Lunch was really yummy this week, my favourite was fish and chips today (Lucas).  We can't wait until next week!

We will be looking at weights in Maths next week.  It would be wonderful to have children weighing and comparing various objects at home (including their toys!).

We are also looking at boardgames in our topic lessons and have asked children to bring in their favourite board games to discuss and play.  We have been particularly inspired by Oscar's wonderful mathsy wooden spinning top board game and are hoping to design and make our own games!  Any interesting recyclable objects you may have lying around the house would be incredibly useful for your child to incorporate into their design.
