Half way through the year!
Happy Valentine's Day Everybody! We hope you have had a fun day! (Bibi and Leila)
I made a lovely card for my Mum with a beautiful picture. I tried my best to make it so she would love it. (Lennon)
I made a card for my girlfriend. (Harry)
Today has been brilliant, it's the best day ever! (Lennon and Harry)
At playtime I made a little sheet of the United Kingdom. It said on the back: 'To Mummy, Happy Valentine's day. I love you. From Lucas.' (Lucas)
We started to learn about Alice in Wonderland. Alice fell down the rabbit hole. The rabbit keeps falling back. The Mad Hatter and the Marsh Hare weren't very nice to Alice. (William Clarke)
This story is about me! (Alice)
We have been finishing off our Andy Warhol pictures and making Goldilocks and the Three Bears puppets. They are amazing! We played our lovely games. (Monty)
We have been doing some really hard subtracting and we were really good at it. (Oscar and Rahin)
When it was swimming, Oliver and Lennon and I jumped in the deep end and swam. All of 1 AP also jumped in the deep end. At first I was afraid of jumping in the deep end, but now I'm used to it and I love it! (Lucas)
Leila and I jumped in the deep end throwing pink and all sorts of coloured hoops. We dived down and got them, it was fun! (Amelie)
Also, if anyone happens to have any old books (the older the better, but any type would work) that we could use for art work...pretty please could we have them. :)

Today we baked some delicious heart cookies. We sprinkled some icing sugar on to the icing.
In phonics, we put tricky words all over the school. I put mine on the stairs. (Erin) We put out on the toilet roll holders (Finlay, Harry).

We had our invitation cross country. Norwich School and loads of others came to compete and it was fun. I won the gold medal. (Finlay)
It was fun to run and our girls team got a certificate for coming first place in our race. (Lily and Emily)
We are very proud of Emily, Lily, Lennon and Finlay. (Bibi)
We had fun playing kitties outside on the playground in the boat. (Summer)
What a wonderful way to end this half term! It is difficult to believe that we are exactly half way through the year. The children are growing up so quickly and it is extremely rewarding to see their maturity, in every area.
Coming up after half term...

Our new topic is Brilliant Buildings, although we start off with two weeks of Alice in Wonderland as our World Book Day link.
Thursday, 27 February - Dress up day and Alice in Wonderland National Storytellers Theatre visit. Please come to school dressed as a character from Alice in Wonderland.
We will be learning about artists who use mixed media, and Louise Richardson's fairytale style. We will be producing our very own journals and creating mixed media artwork for the cover.
Also, if anyone happens to have any old books (the older the better, but any type would work) that we could use for art work...pretty please could we have them. :)
We look forward to seeing you all soon, have a wonderful half term! :)

Another Wonderful Week!
We have been doing a lot of hard work this week, like doubling, halving and writing instructions. We have also been creating masterpieces in the style of Andy Warhol. We sketched a toy using black sketch pens, and then Mrs Pimlott and Mrs Brown printed it out with 4 of our pictures on the sheet. Then we coloured them with different colours. We drew a Guess How Much I Love You puppet, B.A from the A Team, Ollie the Owl, My Liittle Pony, an old telephone and Bibi's old-fashioned doll's house. They look brilliant! (Elizabeth)
It was the best at Dutch Day on Tuesday. We learned all about Holland and Amsterdam and I made a spinning windmill and clay mice. We learned some Dutch - five is the same in English and hello is 'hallo'. The Dutch flag is red, white and blue. We also learned about a famous Dutch artist called Vincent Van Gogh and we did pastel artwork about sunflowers and tulips. We also painted our own versions of Starry Night. (Leila)
It was fun and exciting to meet the Norwich City Footballer, Ricky Van Wolfswinkel who is Dutch. He is cool. (Alice)
I got Ricky Van Wolfswinkel's autograph! Thank you for coming Ricky, it was amazing. (Harry)
I was really excited to get his autograph. (Elizabeth).
We met Ricky Van Wolfswinkel! I was a big fan of him. He is so so good, I thought I was in a real football stadium. (Alfie)
As we draw to a close with our Terrific Toys unit, we would like to thank parents and children for all the toys, games and books that have been brought into school. The response has been amazing!
To wrap up our fantastic games task, we felt it necessary to invite a special guest (Mr Hughes, Langley School and Key Stage 2 DT specialist) to judge our Year 1 children's games. He said "It is great to see such creative ideas coming alive through these games. I love the freedom of thinking that younger children have which seems to evaporate as they get older." Mr Hughes was extremely complimentary about each of the games, and found it tricky to make his decision. The five finalists were (drumroll please...) Lennon, Lucas, Elizabeth, Alfie and Leila, with the overall winner being... Leila! Well done everybody!
Coming up next week:
We will be looking at place value in Maths lessons this week, and using money to reinforce this. We continue our instructions topic and will be making puppets for Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
On Wednesday it is our Invitation Cross Country where Emily, Lily, Lennon and Finlay represent THLPS for Key Stage 1. We look forward to seeing them win all the medals!! And finally on Friday we celebrate St. Valentine's day with many fun crafts and activities. What a great ending to the first half of the Spring Term!
