Excited little swimmers at House Swimming!  Speaking of excited swimmers, do pop in and take a peek at the Year 1 tadpoles in our classroom (courtesy of Mr Ralph)... they seem to be growing by the minute!

Inspired by 'Iggy Peck Architect' we became architects.
Here are some of our building designs and models....

Singing songs at Show and Tell

The Italian National Anthem at Show and Tell time - got to love my football crazy boys! I'm sure there were even tears!

We enjoyed a fascinating talk (and workout!) from the incredible Mrs Heath (Erin's Grandma) who taught swimming and PE at Thorpe House many years ago.  She took us back in time with her wonderful old photographs and we were able to make many comparisons between our school as it was and is now.  The swimming pool looks particularly different, as does the old house, Sunny Hill.  Mrs Heath also had many stories to tell and the children were thoroughly entertained.
What an energetic lady, an inspiration to us all!

Thorpe House Ladies!

Our wonderful Mums (and Nans!) being great sports!

We had an incredible week looking at place value and problem solving.  Here is a taster of what went on in the classroom: the mission impossible... teams building the hundred square on a time limit!

Our Spring Walk was a huge success!  The children were buzzing with their discoveries and the weather was fantastic.  Our thanks go to Mrs Rowell for yet another wonderful Forest Schools session.

We finished the week on an uplifting note with the very talented string quartet performing for us after Good Work Assembly.  The entire school was captivated by the clever selection of pieces played (from Star Wars to One Direction) and the string instruments were showcased beautifully.  Our own Year 1 violinists, William and Sam seemed to have plenty of answers to the questions about the bow and pitch, making us extremely proud.  It is so motivating to see children of such a young age so enthusiastic about music and playing an instrument!

This week sees our Class Assembly and various Easter activities.  We will be looking at the Easter story, and if you have any books or items of interest at home, we would love your child to share them with us.  This will be Mrs Brown's final week with us before her maternity leave and we hope to make the most of having her with us.  They will be difficult shoes to fill...

Straw, Sticks or Bricks?!

Another fantastic week in Year 1 world!

Our Brilliant Buildings topic is well underway.  We read the story of The Three Little Pigs and this has spring boarded many questions and activities involving suitable building materials.

Odds and Evens work continued and we are getting quite quick at them now!  This week we have continued with problem solving and puzzles.  During forest schools we started looking at signs of Spring, and we have been learning to use speech bubbles in our work.

Our week culminated with a fantastic trip to the fascinating Tudor home, Strangers' Hall, where we enjoyed the breathtaking architecture as well as various workshops and activities about Toys in The Past.

Highlights next week are our Spring Science Walk and fantasy bedroom designing!  We also have sequence work in Maths and using speech in English to look forward to.

Date for your diary:

Tuesday, 18th March - House Swimming Event.
Please ensure your child has their swimming kit in school on Tuesday, and for their usual swimming lesson day (1AP on Wednesdays, 1BB on Thursdays).  Unfortunately due to limited space, parents are not invited to attend this event.
A few photographs of random things like meeting the Norfolk Gritter that Millie in Year 2 got to name Chittygritty and the day Finlay and his guitar teacher performed for the class.
