The experiments have continued to take our learning to new heights this week as we have become curiouser and curiouser!! (Mr Oldroyd’s assembly on Monday kick-started the process of being curious about EVERYTHING - thank you Mr Oldroyd!) The boys and girls have been very excited about playing detectives to solve mysteries and the investigations have been fantastic! We have learnt about density in particular, and the children experimented with hot and cold air. Please ask the Year 1 children what the hot air did… We also watched a water experiment where the same principle was very visual – the red hot water went to the top and the blue cold water sunk to the bottom. We also saw a recorded experiment where a boy made his own video of how to make a hovercraft. This inspired the children to make their own video of an experiment.
We learned how to record the Prediction, Test and Result elements of an investigation using an ipad. The boys and girls have made fantastic videos of themselves carrying out their balloon experiments.
There was steaming hot water, I really liked it because the balloon on the bottle went up. - Cameron R
The hot water makes the balloon get air into it. - Sophia
There is no more space in the bottle for the hot air to go, so it goes upwards into the balloon. - Carolina
It was fun doing the experiment because the balloons kept blowing up! - Daisy
We didn't see air in the balloon and had to wait a long time for it to warm up. - Sophie
