What goes up…

We put a bag over a toaster to see if it would go high.  The smaller ones didn’t go very high, but the biggest one touched the ceiling.  Everyone screamed!  Lois

We put all sorts of bags above the hot toaster to get hot air in.  They all floated.  The big one went the highest, the medium one went a little bit high and the small one went up only a tiny bit.  They go up because they have hot air in them. – Carolina

DSCF1749We started to get really curious and were trying to warm the air in all sorts of different things, to make them float too.

Karl suggested we try an orange, Carolina suggested we try a bottle and Connie suggested we try a balloon.

The bottle didn’t fly because it was too heavy and because the hole was too small to get lots of hot air into it.  - Freya

I predicted that the balloon would float.  When we did the test I saw that it did get some air in it, but it didn’t float.  I think this is because the hole is too small and only a little bit of air can get into it.  - Sophia

The orange doesn’t have a hole so nothing could go in it and is too heavy. – CarolinaDSCF1763DSCF1753

We went to the dining hall to see if the bag would go higher in the room.  It zoomed right above Mr Brown and Mr Beaumont’s heads!  - John
