Introducing the most adorable, the most energetic, the most entertaining group of little people... ladies and gentlemen, I give you the class of 2015-2016! It is no secret that this class has it all... and Miss Leggett and I are very excited for what is set to be an incredibly exciting year ahead! Let the fun begin!
So far we have learned all about our new setting, particularly our new adventure playground! The games and conversations between the Year Ones during the first week revealed a common thread ... a very exciting under the sea interest, and we started thinking about what might be inside a pirate's treasure chest. This sparked all sorts of creative ideas - from treasure maps, mermaid stories and messages in bottles, to rope making and even sparkly under the sea fashion designing, with our grand finale... a real fashion show! We had models of pirate islands, magical amulets and even a few scientific experiments! Oh me oh my... what a great start!
In Computing, we have started to learn about the app Popplet, which we are all very excited about using. Popplet is a great tool for creating spider diagrams; ask your son or daughter to explain how it works, or better still to give you a demo on the app!
In our Maths lessons we are starting with the very basics and looking at reading and writing numbers to 20 and counting objects. We are ironing out any issues with number formation and singing our fantastic song (all day!) about how to form our numbers! Please ask your child to sing it to you, and then we can ALL enjoy hearing it 24/7! Ha!
A reminder that Phonics has formally begun this week; the children all have their new spellings. We do hope you will have a chance to log on to Spellodrome, to get used to those new sounds. There is an app for Spellodrome, which is being released in October, so watch this space! Also, for those of you who were able to make it, thank you for attending our Parents' Information Evening on Thursday. It was such a positive meeting, and I look forward to working with such a fantastic group of parents! We asked parents to write down (on a piece of ribbon) their hopes and dreams for their child this year. It would be lovely to have one filled in for everyone, so please do ask if you would like one.
Thank you to all our parents for all the newly labelled kits and organisation! The children have all been well prepared for their first week. A reminder that water bottles need to be labelled please and that we encourage the children to drink a whole bottle (or more) each day by rewarding them with a pom-pom. This has gone down rather well and the competition between them is wonderful!
